Keys

Keys

A key is the opener of many locks, whether a heart or a door or treasure chest. Keys also symbolize the unknown mysteries that lay beyond. Keys remind us that we alone hold the key to our destiny. We can open or close the door. We have the power.

I wear a small ornate silver key on a chain around my neck to remind me that indeed I am the keeper of my destiny. Worn as an amulet, it is believed that a key necklace will open doors of opportunity and success.

I have read that Jewish midwives used to give a key to a woman in labor to encourage the safe delivery of her baby. Also, several ancient cultures buried a key with the deceased so that they would be able to open the door to the afterlife. And there is a superstition in Eastern Europe that a key charm will bring good dreams to the owner.

A charm of three keys together will unlock the secrets to wisdom, life and love.
