Selket — Breath of the East
Selket — also known as Serqet, Serkt, Selqet, Selkit, Selkis — was worshipped in the Southern Delta. Her cult was once spread throughout the land of ancient Egypt, though no records or traces of her temples have been found.
Many years ago, while studying for my first Degree in the Gardnerian tradition of Witchcraft, I was relaxing on my couch trying to decide upon my magical name. Deep in thought about Goddesses, I felt and heard the thunderous sound of heavy footsteps, definitely not of this realm.
For one brief moment the floor and walls of my apartment trembled as my attention was focused on the doorway of the next room. As I looked up I beheld the most powerful and intense Goddess.
She was Selket and she was standing at the beginning, in the East. The weight of her overwhelming power pressed against me, and for a split second I was breathless. Just as suddenly my breath returned and I knew she had entered my soul.
